Fort Bend athletes in action: Women's basketball

The following women's basketball players, all with local high school ties, have scheduled action this week:

Diamond Ford, Texas State University
Position: Guard
High school: Hightower High School
This week: Saturday, Feb. 16, at University of Texas-San Antonio
About Ford: Ford, a 5-foot-9 senior guard for Texas State University, is a 2009 graduate of Hightower High School. She earned TABC All-State and TABC All-Star honors for coach Deb Mize during her senior year. The Houston native is the daughter of Wilbert Ford and Monique Nichols.

Carolyn Davis, University of Kansas
High school: Fort Bend Bush High School
This week: Sunday, Feb. 17, versus University of Oklahoma
About Davis: A 2009 graduate of George Bush High School in Houston, Texas, Carolyn Averaged 25 points and 15 rebounds per game as a senior on her way to earning First Team All-District honors. She turned in 19 points and 11 rebounds per game for her George Bush High School team as a junior. Carolyn earned four letters in basketball, with two coming at GBHS under Christina Rankin. She also competed in volleyball, earning three letters. Carolyn is the daughter of Beatrice Johnson.

Brittney Matthew, Stephen F. Austin State University

High School: Fort Bend Hightower High School
This week: Saturday, Feb. 16, at Southeastern Louisiana University
About Matthew: Matthew is a sophomore guard for Stephen F. Austin State University. She is a 2011 graduate of Fort Bend Hightower High School in Missouri City, where she was MVP. The biomedical sciences major from Houston is the daughter of Sheku and Giselle Turbe.

Morgan Simmons, Texas Southern University
High school: Austin High School
This week: Saturday, Feb. 16, versus University of Arkansas
About Simmons: Simmons, a 6-foot-1 sophomore for Texas Southern University, is a 2011 graduate of Austin High School. She is a La Marque native.

Alexis Watson, Grambling State University
Position: Guard
High school: Travis High School
This week: Saturday, Feb. 16, at Jackson State University
About Watson: Watson, a 5-foot-6 senior guard for Grambling State University, is a 2009 graduate of Travis High School. The Katy native is the daughter of Alonzo Watson and is a business management major.

Ashley Ezeh, Texas State University
High school: Fort Bend Bush High School
This week: Saturday, Feb. 16, at University of Texas-San Antonio
About Ezeh: Ezeh, a 6-foot junior for Texas State University, is a 2010 graduate of Bush High School. There she played for coach Christina Rankin and was ranked one of the top 10 players in the Houston area coming out of high school by Houston Prep Report, and one of the top 100 players in Texas by the FCP Report. The Houston native graduated cum laude and is the daughter of Boniface and Mercy Ezeh.

Donielle Breaux, Texas Christian University

High school: Elkins High School

About Breaux: Breaux is a sophomore guard for Texas Christian University. The Missouri City native is a 2011 graduate of Fort Bend Elkins High School, where she was district offensive player of the year.

Emoney Brown, Colorado Northwestern Community College

High school: Rosenberg Lamar Consolidated High School

About Brown: Brown is a freshman guard for Colorado Northwestern Community College. The Rosenberg native is a 2012 graduate of Rosenberg Lamar Consolidated High School.
