Youngsters can learn to be elves at Elf Academy

An Elf Academy, sponsored by First Colony Mall, will be held Saturday, Dec. 8 at First Colony Mall Dillard’s Court in Sugar Land.

The event will run from 2-4 p.m.

According to the organization, children will be taught by Santa’s helpers on how to be an elf and receive a certificate at the end of the class.

SynchroStars advancing to national trials

Elizabeth Oh and Abby Remmers of SynchroStars recently participated in a National Team Skills competition, qualifying to move on to the National Team Trials.

Oh finished second overall for the 13-15 age group. Remmers finished eighth overall in the 11-12 age group.

The girls are busy preparing for the next phase of the competition, taking place in February.

Oh and Remmers are the first girls to qualify for the trials in the team’s five-year history.

Visit demo gardens with the Masters

Saturday with the Master Gardeners, sponsored by Fort Bend Master Gardeners, will be held Saturday, Dec. 1 at Agriculture Center in Rosenberg.

The event will run from 9-11 a.m.

Students can design, create, model costumes

The Project Costume Workshop, sponsored by Fort Bend Theatre, will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, at Fort Bend Theatre in Stafford.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 1.

Students will spend the day creating their own costume creations out of found objects. Then they will show off their designs in a theatrical catwalk show.

Keep Sugar Land Beautiful hosts tree planting

Keep Sugar Land Beautiful hosted a Trees Across Sugar Land event on Saturday, Nov. 10 in Sugar Land Memorial Park. A total of 220 KSLB volunteers planted and mulched 400 five-gallon native hardwood trees.

The City of Sugar Land, Apache Corporation, Houston Landscapes Unlimited and Whole Foods Market all contributed to the event.

Trees were donated by the Apache Foundation Tree Grand Program while Houston Landscapes Unlimited dug 400 holes for the planting. Water and snacks for volunteers were donated by Whole Foods Market.

CASA Christmas Home Tour to benefit children

The annual CASA Christmas Home Tour, sponsored by Child Advocates of Fort Bend, will be held Friday, Dec. 7 and Saturday, Dec. 8.

The event will run from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.on both days, with a candlelight tour from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7.

According to a press release, the 21st annual event benefits Child Advocates of Fort Bend, an organization that helps abused and neglected children in the county. The tour features six homes in Sugar Land, Lake Pointe, Lakes of Williams Ranch and Sienna Plantation that are the most beautifully decorated for Christmas.

Tickets are $20 presale, and $25 beginning Nov. 26.

Missouri City’s 29th Snowfest kicks off Dec. 7

The 29th annual Snowfest Festival will be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7 at Missouri City’s City Hall Complex.

According to a press release from City of Missouri City, “The event features tree lighting, fireworks and fun for the whole family. The following day, Saturday, Dec. 8, the annual SnowfestParade will begin at 9 a.m. at the corner of Murphy Road and Cartwright Road.”
