Local Rotary Club donates dictionaries
The Rotary Club of Rosenberg recently donated dictionaries to every third-grade student in the Lamar Consolidated and Needville school districts. Three members of the club made the delivery trip to Williams Elementary, including Jack Hamlet, Rosenberg city manager; Joyce Vasut, chief financial officer for the city of Rosenberg; and Laura Lyons, CISD executive director of elementary education.
The Rosenberg Rotary is made up of business professionals from several area organizations who volunteer their efforts through club programming and community projects. The club meetings are held at noon every Wednesday at the Grand China Buffet, 4310 Ave. H, Suite 30, Rosenberg.

Quail Valley Garden Club marks 40 years
The Quail Valley Garden Club recently celebrated its 40th year of serving the Missouri City region. According to a press release, members of the club shared birthday cake and memories from the past four decades, with Patsy Armbruster, the club’s first president, presenting pictures and personal stories about the club’s beginnings.
Since it began in 1972, the group has promoted knowledge of horticulture, civic beautification, natural resource conservation, and provided college scholarships to students pursuing continuing education in horticultural science, according to the release.
The club is affiliated with the National Council of Garden Clubs, Texas Garden Clubs and the Houston Federation of Garden Clubs and meets on the second Thursday of each month. It is open to anyone interested in gardening.

Sienna Branch Library presents puppet show
Fort Bend County Libraries’ Sienna Branch will host a special holiday marionette show at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 in the library meeting room. “’Twas The Night Before Christmas” will be presented by master puppeteer Jean Kuecher, producer of Marionette Playhouse, according to a press release.
The show is for children of all ages and will feature Santa, Rudolph and the Snow Queen. The story will follow Santa’s Christmas Eve journey from the North Pole to putting gifts under a child’s Christmas tree. Kuecher, a member of the Puppeteers of America and the Greater Houston Puppetry Guild, created the marionettes, costumes and scenery.
She also holds a master’s degree in education, counseling and guidance from the University of Houston. Both performances are free and open to the public. Sienna Branch Library is located at 8411 Sienna Springs Blvd., Missouri City.
