The Lamar Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees approved a plan to build a 600-seat competition natatorium at its November meeting.

The facility will be located on the current site of the Lamar Consolidated High School baseball field. The Mustang baseball team will move to a new 315-seat stadium slightly north of the current location on property already owned by the district.

The new baseball stadium will be complete in January 2014. The new natatorium is expected to be completed before the beginning of the 2014-15 school year.

A team made up of central office administrators, representatives from Lamar CISD's facilities, maintenance and athletics departments, design consultants and the district's program manager was created to make recommendations to the school board trustees.

A total of 222 additional paved parking spaces for Traylor Stadium will be included in the design, with more room for additional parking available.

Both the new natatorium and the renovations to Traylor Stadium were approved by voters in the 2011 bond program.

Plans for practice pools at Foster, George Ranch and Fulshear High Schools will be funded in future bond programs.
