Quail Valley GT Academy student publishes ebook
Quail Valley GT Academy student Alice Harvey, center, and her parents celebrate the success of Harvey's ebook, "Time Star."
Quail Valley GT Academy student Alice Harvey is seeing success after publishing her first ebook through Amazon.
The 12-year-old's novella, titled "Time Star," tells the story of a teenage girl challenged to save the fate of mankind. It was originally part of a sixth-grade English assignment, but after reading it, teacher David Sebek told Harvey's parents they should consider putting together an ebook version.
Harvey worked on the extended project over the summer, editing the work and creating her own cover art. The book launched on Sept. 4, selling 28 copies in the first week.
"I was really excited to see how many people were buying my book," Harvey said in a press release. "I can't believe how happy it made me feel."
Since its Amazon Kindle store release, "Time Star" has found a significant fan base, garnering positive reviews and demands for a sequel. One teacher in the United Kingdom has even used the book as an inspirational writing assignment for her own students, according to the release.
