Fort Bend P-16 Regional Council receives state recognition
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has recognized Fort Bend's P-16 group as a 2012 Regional Council.
According to a press release, P-16 was founded to get more students to attend and complete college. The name stands for Preschool through grade 16, the fourth year of college. The group is made of leaders from the community, nonprofits, colleges and other local organizations.
"As a school superintendent, I know that community involvement is one of the keys to academic success," Thomas Randle, superintendent of Lamar CISD and chairman of the P-16 Council executive board, said in the release. "This group wants everyone to know that education is important to our community, and not just for those families with school-aged children."
Currently, P-16 is working with All Kids Alliance on a math initiative in Lamar CISD, Stafford MSD, Needville ISD and Fort Bend ISD.
