Sweetwater golf tourney aids women’s center
The Sweetwater Country Club will host the Ramsay Gillman Golf Tournament benefiting the Fort Bend County Women’s Center Monday, Nov. 5.
The annual 18-hole Florida scramble tournament will include dinner, a live auction and raffle.
Throughout the past 16 years, this event has raised at least $650,000 for the Fort Bend County Women’s Center. The center provides support for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and their families.
The tournament begins at noon at the Sweetwater Country Club at 4400 Palm Royale Blvd. in Sugar Land.
In more than 35 years of serving the community, the Fort Bend County Women’s Center has helped more than 35,000 women and children achieve violence-free lifestyles.

Optimist Club Fun Run to help needy children
The 30th annual Fun Run presented by the Fort Bend Optimist Club in Sugar Land will start at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at Sugar Land Memorial Park.
Event proceeds will go to Fort Bend County’s children in need. Registration is $25. Sugar Land Memorial Park is located at 15300 University Blvd.

Boy Scout Troop makes trek to Florida sea base
Boy Scout Troop 1631 of Fort Bend had the opportunity to travel to the Florida High Adventure Sea Base this year. While there, the troop went scuba diving and explored reefs and shipwrecks off Islamorada in the Florida Keys. Two experienced dive masters led the explorations.
Chartered by the Fort Bend Optimist Club in Sugar Land, Troop 1631 meets at 7 p.m. Mondays at Fort Settlement Middle School and is affiliated with the Sam Houston Area Council. Each summer the troop visits a high adventure destination. It also spends time exploring local destinations throughout the year.

Libraries launch catalog for smartphones
The Fort Bend County Libraries recently announced the addition of a new feature to its online catalog system. The Mobile Public Access Catalog enables iPhone and Android users to search the catalog and manage their library accounts from their cellphones, according to a library press release.
The new program is a web-based, public-access library catalog that has been designed for mobile devices, including the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Blackberry, Android and Windows Mobile phones. According to the release, there is nothing for users to download. Whenever patrons access library websites, it will be automatically recognized as a mobile device and will switch to the mobile view.
Mobile PAC users can search the library catalog, view their account, renew items, place holds, check library hours and view new and popular titles.
The main center for the Fort Bend County Libraries is located at 1001 Golfview Drive in Richmond.
