City recognized for Niagara Company project
Missouri City recently was awarded the 2012 Community Economic Development Award for the Niagara Bottling Company project.
In making its decision, Texas Economic Development Council cited Missouri City’s “team effort” in partnering with the Greater Houston Partnership, the Fort Bend Economic Development Council, Fort Bend County, CenterPoint Energy Economic Development Group and Water Control and Improvement District No. 2 to interest the second-largest water bottling company in the U.S. to open at Lakeview Business Park.
Niagara’s Missouri City plant is scheduled to be fully operational in the first quarter of 2013. When complete, the facility will include water processing, bottle manufacturing, warehousing and a distribution facility.
Headquartered in Ontario, Calif., Niagara has bottling plants in eight states, including Texas.

Chamber’s Young Professionals plan spooky bash
The Central Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Division will hold its fourth annual Halloween Bash from 6:30-10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25 at Fort Bend Toyota, located at 20465 Southwest Freeway in Fort Bend.
Open to anyone who is 21 and older, the party will include free food, drinks, a haunted house, an iPad raffle, costume contest, canned food drive and the Bud Light Girls.
Participants are encouraged to bring a canned food donation, which will benefit the Fort Bend County Women’s Center, and to wear a costume.

Hospital offers support group directory
Methodist Sugar Land Hospital has launched an online directory of local support groups and charitable and health-service organizations.
The directory provides detailed information about the services offered by a number of local organizations.
The directory was created by Methodist Sugar Land’s Spiritual Care and Values Integration Department and was led by Nancy Penny, associate staff chaplain. Penney met with local clergy and nonprofit organizations to compile information for the directory.

Tradio helps raise money for food bank
Two Tradio Brazilian Steakhouse restaurants participated in the recent Houston Restaurant Weeks community campaign and raised $7,440 for families in need.
The Clear Lake/Webster location brought in $3,115 for the Houston Food Bank, and the Southwest Freeway/Fort Bend restaurant added $4,325.
During the event, $5 from every meal was contributed to the food bank, which will use the money to provide healthy and nutritious food for those needing help in the Houston area, according to a press release.
“We were happy to pitch in and help raise funds for our less fortunate neighbors during Houston Restaurant Weeks,” said Vanderlei Bernardi, general manager at Tradio Brazilian Steakhouse, in the release. “The Houston area has given a lot to the Tradio Brazilian Steakhouse team. Without their support, we would not be here. We felt a duty to give back to our community and our neighbors and supporting the Houston Food Bank was a natural for our restaurant.”
