Scanlan Oaks Elementary student uses birthday to give to others
Students Fam'ya Olaoye, left, Amy Espinal, Sebastian Moreno, Brian Villa, Zachary Ruben and his mother, Michelle Ruben; (back row) Lynne Settlemyre, left, First United Methodist Church senior pastor, and Clay Collier, Armstrong Elementary P.E. teacher.
Scanlan Oaks Elementary School second grader Zachary Ruben celebrated his birthday by supporting Armstrong Elementary School.
Instead of receiving presents for his birthday this year, Ruben asked his family and friends to purchase basketballs, soccer balls, jump ropes and hoola hoops to benefit the students at Armstrong.
He learned about the school's need for support through his church, First United Methodist Church Missouri City, which is a community partner of Armstrong Elementary.
