Lamar CISD launches new after-school program
The Lamar Consolidated Independent School District is offering a new after-school program for students at four area elementary schools. The Lamar Educational Afterschool Program will be offered at Austin, Hubenak, McNeill and Thomas elementary schools, according to a press release. The program will be open until 6:30 p.m. every school day and on staff development days for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. "Our goal is to offer an affordable program to parents in an educational atmosphere they already have come to trust," program coordinator Michelle Pia Amosshe said in a press release. "We'll have quality activities every day in a structured setting." Amos said each campus will have a site manager and several group leaders directly supervising the students. The program is currently hiring for the part-time positions, and all employees will receive the same background check given to professional educators in the state. Enrollment is ongoing, and space in the program is limited at each school. For more information or to enroll a student, call 832-223-0132 or email leap@lcisd.org.
