Fort Bend Dulles High School student Bobby Shen wins third place at International Math Olympiad
Bobby Shen of Sugar Land took third place in the International Mathematical Olympiad held in Argentina.
Bobby Shen of Dulles High School in Sugar Land won third place overall at the 53rd International Mathematical Olympiad held recently in Mar del Plata, Argentina.
Shen was part of Team USA, which as a team placed third out of the 100 countries entered in the competition. Shen also earned the third-best score among all 548 individuals who competed in the contest.
The IMO is a six-problem, 42-point math competition held over two days. It is the oldest contest of the International Science Olympiads. Questions cover a wide range of mathematical problems.
Contestants with a score of at least 28 points received a gold medal. Singapore's Jeck Lim was the only contestant to achieve a perfect score of 42.
Bobby Shen of Sugar Land won a gold medal by earning 39 points.
The Republic of Korea team placed first with a total score of 209, followed by the team from the People's Republic of China with a score of 195. Team USA placed third with 194 points.
Zuming Feng from Phillips Exeter Academy served as Team USA's leader with Loh Po-Shen of Carnegie Mellon University as deputy leader.
