The Coastal Prairie Chapter of Texas Master Naturalist for Fort Bend and Waller counties will hold an eight-week volunteer naturalist training program beginning at 9 a.m. Sept. 8 and ending Oct. 25.

The classes, limited to 25 members, will meet on three Saturdays and five Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The first session will be held at the Coastal Prairie Chapter, located at 1402 Band Road, Suite 100 in Rosenberg. Naturalist trainees will be given a binder at the introductory class that gives location directions and an agenda for subsequent classes.

The cost of the training is $150 per person, and registration is due Sept. 5.

Texas Parks and Wildlife and the Texas AgriLife Extension Service sponsor the program. Because the class size is limited, applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Volunteers will be trained to help children and adults learn and understand Texas natural history and resources. The goal of using volunteers is to offer visitors and state residents a new appreciation of the environment and inspire environmental protection for years to come, according to a press release.
