Houston Rockets donate new reading corner at Glover Elementary School
The Houston Rockets and the University of Phoenix Houston campus donated a new reading corner in Glover Elementary School.
The corner includes a wooden table and chairs, decorative rugs, beanbag chairs and Leap Frog story books, along with Leapster and LeapPad learning game systems.
Due to the success of the Rockets' "Read to Achieve" program for which Glover students read more than 450,000 minutes, the prizes were donated to the school. There was a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a pep rally featuring Clutch, the Rockets mascot.
Clutch, along with Rockets Ranger Dominic Davila, congratulated students on the reading achievement and presented a Rockets alarm clock to Glover's top readers: Keshawn Minor (first grade), Terrance Jones (second grade), Johnae Pickard (third grade) and Kaila McZeal (fifth grade).
