Fort Bend ISD anti-drug division honors partners
Deputy Dennis McAfee, Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Department (shown standing) shared details about his department's partnership with FBISD.
The Fort Bend ISD Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Department honored the commitment of its community partners with an appreciation reception in May.
"Our community partners provide us with valuable services and resources to support our students and schools each year," said Safe and Drug-Free Schools Facilitator Annette Henderson in a press release from the school. "Whether they serve on planning committees, volunteer time or provide us with much-needed resources to enhance safety efforts, our community partners make a positive difference in students' lives, and we could not be more grateful."
Representatives from several community organizations and agencies, including the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Department, the Fort Bend Regional Council on Substance Abuse and the Fort Bend County Medical Society, shared the details of their partnerships with the school district and their efforts to benefit students.
The Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities Department facilitates programs within the district to prevent violence and the illegal use of drugs. With the help of parents and community stakeholders, the department works to coordinate with federal, state and local efforts in providing a safe environment for students that fosters academic achievement.
As part of the ongoing program, the district employs full-time substance abuse experts as a resource for at-risk students or those already involved in substance abuse.
Fort Bend ISD's administrative offices are located at 16431 Lexington Blvd. in Sugar Land. For more information, visit www.fortbendisd.com.
