Eighth-grader Rahul Nagvekar of Quail Valley Middle School in the Fort Bend ISD won the 2012 National Geographic Bee May 24.

Hosted by Alex Trebek of "Jeopardy," the bee was held in Washington, D.C.

Rahul advanced to the national competition after winning the Texas State Geographic Bee in April.

The competition involved answering geography questions and analyzing climate charts and world maps.

Rahul won by answering the question, "What Bavarian city on the Danube River served as the legislative seat of the Holy Roman Empire from 1663-1806?"  Regensburg is the correct answer.

Rahul received a lifetime membership to the National Geographic Society, a trip to the Galapagos Islands and a $25,000 college scholarship.
