Woman faces charges following high speed chase
A woman who allegedly led law enforcement officials on a high speed chase from Stafford to near Beasley early Friday, Feb. 17 is facing several charges stemming from the incident.
Elizabeth Louise Wilson, 30, has been charged with a third-degree felony count of evading arrest, along with possession of marijuana and driving under the influence. She remained in the Fort Bend County Jail and was to a see a magistrate Saturday morning, Feb. 18. No bond had been set.
According to a news release, Fort Bend County deputies attempted to stop Wilson’s vehicle at about 2:54 a.m. for a traffic violation on FM 1092. Instead of stopping, Wilson allegedly took off, drove through neighborhoods in Stafford and finally landed on U.S. 90A headed east.
Authorities allege Wilson then drove all the way to Loop 610 in Houston and after a series of turns and U-turns, ended up in the southbound lanes of the Southwest Freeway, headed toward Fort Bend County.
Officers from several agencies joined in the chase, traveling at speeds as high as 100 mph. Even attempts by deputies to disable Wilson’s vehicle with spikes weren’t immediately successful.
Deputies put out spikes near the Brazos River turnaround at Crabb River Road, and though Wilson’s vehicle hit them, she continue driving southwest on U.S. 59 with law enforcement vehicles close behind.
Wilson’s vehicle finally veered off U.S. 59 near Beasley and came to rest with her front tires worn down to bare metal, according to the news release.
Still, Wilson purportedly refused to surrender, and deputies had to shatter a window after she locked herself in the vehicle. She sustained minor cuts and was taken to Oak Bend Medical Center in Richmond, treated and released to authorities, who took her to jail.
