Fort Bend Roundup: Hurricanes keep the faith
[...] after a five-game winning streak, the Hurricanes are 5-2 overall and, more importantly, 2-0 in District 23-5A zone play, and within one win of clinching a spot in the district championship game. All-district starting safety Jordan Bell missed the first four games while recovering from knee surgery in July, and running back Joshua Wilhite wasn't right after his own offseason knee surgery. Wilhite was feeling pain in his knees the first couple games and lacked his usual explosiveness, so he went to the doctor, and the diagnosis wasn't good - meniscus damage in his non-repaired knee. The initial plan called for Wilhite to have both knees scoped and possibly miss the rest of the regular season, but after a second opinion revealed further damage was unlikely he opted to put it off. Wilhite rushed for 178 yards and one score against Elkins in the Hurricanes' zone opener, then followed that performance with 128 yards and four TDs on 22 carries against Willowridge last week. Wilhite missed one game after the initial diagnosis, giving fans a glimpse of the future at running back against Fort Bend Austin.
