Fort Bend Roundup: Harriers' cast of contenders stable
Clements and Fort Bend Austin were the top cross country programs in District 23-5A last year - only their teams didn't finish how they were supposed to. Austin and Clements, along with Kempner, again are contenders for the boys and girls team championships at the district meet, which is slated for later this month at Missouri City Community Park. If the Lady 'Dogs are to defend their team title, they'll need help at the back end, behind the top four, which includes freshmen Hannah Patterson and Elisa Vincentelli and sophomore Kendall Yates The Foster boys cross country team finished third at the Cypress Woods Invitational, scoring 90 points to finish just behind The Woodlands (83) and meet winner Seven Lakes, which cruised with 36 points. Fort Bend Christian rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Pope John XXIII 31-21 last week and improve to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in TAPPS 2-4A. Quarterback Kellen Kacal threw two touchdown passes in the fourth, which began with his team down seven points on the road. Kacal's four-yard scoring pass to Jack Thomas tied the score with 10 minutes remaining, and his 46-yard scoring strike to Connor Corrporon gave the Eagles a 28-21 edge with 5 minutes remaining.
