Sugar Land City Council to hold redistricting hearing
Sugar Land's City Council will ask the public for input soon on a plan to re-draw the city's council districts.
At a public hearing on Sept. 6 at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 2700 Town Center Blvd., residents can comment on the plan.
The city began the redistricting process after receiving the results of the 2010 United States Census. The U.S. Constitution requires that each district have a mostly equal population, with no more than 10 percent difference between the most- and least-populated districts.
A citizen Redistricting Advisory Committee took part in the process, to ensure the city's new districts comply with federal law. The members included Russell Jones, Leon Anhaiser, Himesh Gandhi, Paul Barnett, Jim Kij, Tommy Philips and Dawn Lin.
Residents can also submit comments, and request copies of the proposed plan, by reaching City Secretary Glenda Gundermann at 281-275-2730 or ggundermann@sugarlandtx.gov.
