Marshall grads lead UTEP defense in win over New Mexico
Fort Bend Marshall HS grads Antwon Blake and Royzell Smith combined for nine tackles in UTEP’s 38-20 win over New Mexico on Saturday.
Blake also forced a fumble to compliment his five tackles. Smith had four tackles in the contest.
Smith is the son of Royzell Smith III, and June Woods. The former Midlands region star is now second on the team in tackles for the season with 25.
Blake is the son of Stephanie Blake. He garnered All-District 23-5A honors as a senior at Thurgood Marshal HS. He captained a squad that posted a record of 7-3 and claimed a second-place finish in the district. Blake contributed 53 tackles, four interceptions and two fumble recoveries that season.
UTEP will take on Rice Saturday at the Sun Bowl. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
