Sugar Land's Darling thriving in UFL
Stephen F. Austin graduate and former NFL wider receiver Devard Darling is now staring in the UFL for the Omaha Nighthawks.
Sugar Land’s Darling led the Nighthawks Friday in receiving with five receptions for 48 yards and a touchdown in their 27-26 thrilling win over Hartford.
Omaha, Nebraska now has a professional football team of its very own and 23,067 fans were on hand to see their dynamite Debut.
Darling is not the only former NFL household name on the Nighthawks roster. Omaha also starts Jeff Garcia, Robert Ferguson, Ahman Green, Cato June, and Charles Grant.
Darling, who was born in the Bahamas but grew up in Sugar Land, played three years football, basketball and track at Stephen F. Austin.
At Austin, he was one of the top wide receivers in the state, and ran a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash. His college career began at Florida State, but he went on to become a star in the PAC-10 for Washington State. Darling played for the Chiefs and Ravens in the NFL.
In 2007, playing for Baltimore, he caught 18 passes for 323 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Omaha will welcome the Sacramento Mountain Lions into Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. CST on HDNET.
