Clements High School students earn travel grants to study language, cultures
published Oct. 1, 2012
A total of seven students in the Global Studies Academy at Clements High School were recipients of travel grants that helped fund trips to support their study of languages and cultures.
The grants were presented by the Global Studies Academy Booster Club to Edbony Colemon for Japan; Leah Emerson for Spain; Ryan Foley for Germany; Alyzan King for France; Marina Molina for Germany; Nicholas Senften for Spain and Bonnie Worstell for Germany.
Students will share details of their trips throughout the course of the school year at Global Studies Academy Booster Club and parent meetings, held the first Thursday of each month.
New travel grants for the summer of 2013 will be awarded in February.
Students in the Global Studies Academy at Clements High School are given the opportunity to study one of six world languages, including French, German, Japanese, Latin, Spanish and Chinese. Students can also take part in exchange programs; mentorship and internship programs with international businesses and agencies; and community service projects. Throughout the year, students participate in international festivals, virtual field trips, language clubs, honor societies and state and local contests.
Current ninth graders within the Fort Bend ISD who are interested in attending the Global Studies Academy, or any other academy during the 2013-2014 school year, can attend the district's Academy Expo from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24 at Wheeler Field House, 16403 Lexington Blvd., Fort Bend.
