Anti-bullying summit held at Elkins High School
published Feb. 21, 2012 - Story by Timothy Petropoulos
Elkins High School, located at 7007 Knights Court, in Missouri City, hosted its Global Tapestry Middle School Anti-Bullying Summit to help middle school students to spread awareness about bullying and the importance of reporting incidents.
The summit featured remarks from Elkins High School theater teacher Andrea Cope, who shared her family's journey of survival during the Holocaust.
"The main purpose of the conference was to allow our high school students to help communicate the 'No Place for Hate' message by addressing one of the biggest problems facing students today — bullying," said Jackie Bickerstaff, Elkins communication applications teacher and summit coordinator, in a press release. "We want FBISD students to learn to be proactive and to take a stand against bullying so that we all can enjoy a peaceful and safe learning environment."
In the fall, approximately 30 Elkins students helped facilitate the Beau and Abe Merfish Foundation's "No Place for Hate" youth summit, where they trained middle school students on how to recognize, prevent and respond to bullying, according to a press release.
