Sugar Land Sugar Mill Redevlopment Presentation Met with Opposition

Sugar Land residents were not pleased to hear the latest Johnson Development proposed PD (planned development) plan that includes building 1600 multifamily units and 200 Townhomes. Doug Goff, COO of Johnson Development can be seen on my YouTube video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Y1-TiinaJ4 The heated exchange with Sugar Land residents is likely a preview of more to come. This is not a Johnson Master Planned Community so residents have a pretty strong voice here in Sugar Land. Particularly in this historically sensitive area of town.

JOIN OUR RALLY ON THE STEPS OF SUGAR LAND CITY HALL APRIL 5, 2011 AT 6PM

This is Diana Miller, candidate for Sugar Land City Council District 1. I have recently come under fire by the developers hoping to amend the entire Sugar Land apartment development code to allow bigger projects and allow them within closer distance, such as the plan for Imperial Sugar Mill site, FINALLY shown in greater detail by the Houston Chronicle, March Week of March 24-30. Mass emails, a Fort Bend Independent newspaper front page article and a letter to the Mayor, City Council and Planning & Zoning stated I was presenting "false statements" when I presented data to Planning & Zoning. The data I presented came from the Houston Association of REALTORS(R) MLS data base. My opponents supporters have further distributed the mass emails. My requests of the offending parties to correct their statements was rejected. Fortunately, the groundswell of support is growing greater and the devloper's action are only adding fuel to the fire. Sugar Land residents can read through the lines and they are joining me in the fight against this effort to destroy our award winning quality of life. VOTE, VOTE, VOTE!!! Any final decision on this and any other PD plan MUST be approved by City Council. This years election to be held, Sat. May 14 gives Sugar Land Voters the opportunity to change the face of City Council and stop the free ride developers have been enjoying. JOIN OUR RALLY ON THE STEPS OF CITY HALL (to be held while during the City Council meeting). SEND A MESSAGE TO CITY OFFICIALS THAT SUGAR LAND IS NOT FOR SALE TO DEVELOPERS! Visit our opposition web site for more details. Search Stop Imperial Sugar Mill Apartments to find us.

RE: Sugar Land Sugar Mill Redevlopment Presentation Met with Opposition

April 7, 2011 Dear Residents and Concerned Citizens: In an April 5, 2011 posting on a public blog entitled “Developers Courting City Council and Planning Department”, Sugar Land City Council candidate for District 1, Diana Miller, has made statements surrounding recent events related to the Imperial Redevelopment project in Sugar Land. Without any attempt to verify the facts with Johnson Development, Ms. Miller incorrectly stated that Johnson Development “held an invitation only VIP event at the ball park for City Council members”. In actuality, it was the City of Sugar Land’s official groundbreaking ceremony for their new Star Tex Power Field (see attached copy of the official invitation) where not only city officials and staff were present but many long time Sugar Land residents and other interested parties. Representatives from Johnson Development were present as invited guests to the event which was held on land owned by the City of Sugar Land within the Imperial project. Additionally, Ms Miller states in her April 5, 2011 posting that “On Monday, Johnson hosted the City of Sugar Land Planning Department on a trip to see high density, high end apartments.” While we did invite city staff members and Planning & Zoning commissioners to tour two multifamily properties developed by Sueba USA, we feel that Ms Miller is negatively implying that Johnson was “courting” city officials. To our knowledge, it has been a standard practice for city staff, P&Z Commissioners, City Council members, the Mayor and City Manager to participate in tours of comparable properties being proposed for development within the city. We believe participating with city officials in open discussions regarding our plans for the future provides us with the direction needed to develop the Imperial community in a manner that is compatible with the vision our leaders have for the City of Sugar Land. Please visit our website at www.imperialsugarland.com for more details and information about the entire Imperial development plans or contact me at shay@imperialsugarland.com if you have any questions. Shay Shafie, Imperial Development
