Pro Baseball: Chad Daniel Huffman, Columbus Clippers
published Jun. 30, 2011Chad Daniel Huffman went 1 for 4 with two RBIs in the Columbus Clippers's 12-4 loss to the Toledo Mud Hens on Wednesday. Huffman graduated from Fort Bend Elkins High School.
Huffman is a 2003 graduate of Elkins High School and went on to play college baseball at Texas Christian University. As a freshman at TCU (2004), Huffman was named Conference USA freshman of the year and first-team freshman all-American at outfielder after batting .383 with nine home runs and 44 RBIs. During his junior season, 2006, Huffman earned third-team college all-American honors at designated hitter in addition to being named a Mountain West Conference all-star first baseman. That season he batted .388 with 18 homers and 71 RBIs. Huffman was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the second round (53rd overall) of the 2006 Major League Baseball draft. Pro Baseball: Mark Christopher Lowe, Texas Rangers
published Jun. 30, 2011Mark Christopher Lowe went 0 for 0 in the Texas Rangers's 3-2 loss at the Houston Astros on Wednesday. Lowe graduated from Fort Bend Baptist Academy High School.
Lowe is a 2001 graduate of Fort Bend Baptist Academy before playing college baseball at the University of Texas-Arlington. He pitched two seasons (2002 and 2004) while missing the 2003 campaign due to injury going a career 2-6 with four saves in 33 games six starts at UTA. Lowe was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the fifth round (153rd overall) of the 2004 Major League Baseball draft. After going a combined 7-8 with a 5.32 ERA in 40 games 25 of which were starts in 2004 and 2005 during stops as short-season class-A Everett (Northwest League) and single-A Wisconsin (Midwest League) Lowe transitioned to being primarily a reliever during 2006. In 24 games all but two of which were out of the bullpen Lowe went 1-2 with six saves and a 1.96 at advanced class-A Inland Empire (California League) and San Antonio of the double-A Texas League. On July 7 2006 Lowe made his Major League debut jumping from double-A to the big leagues. He went 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA in 15 outings for the Mariners. After an injury plagued 2007 during which he pitched in just 12.2 innings at four different levels Lowe spent all of 2008 and 2009 with the Mariners. He made 132 appearances over those two years pitching 143.2 innings. He logged a 3.26 ERA with three saves during 2009. Lowe pitched in 11 games during 2010 for the Mariners going 1-3 with a 3.48 ERA before he was traded to Texas as part of the Cliff Lee deal. Pro Baseball: James Anthony Comerota, Yakima Bears
published Jun. 30, 2011James Anthony Comerota went 2 for 4 and scored a run in the Yakima Bears's 7-4 loss at the Spokane Indians on Wednesday. Comerota graduated from Fort Bend Hightower High School.
Comerota graduated from Hightower High School in 2005 before going on to play four seasons (2007 to 2010) at Rice University. He appeared in 196 games in his career for the Owls posting a batting average of .302 with seven home runs and 101 RBIs. He was drafted in the 18th round (541st overall) off the 2010 Major League Baseball draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Comerota began his pro career in 2010 with Arizona's short-season class A affiliate Yakima of the Northwest League. Pro Baseball: James A. Loney, Los Angeles Dodgers
published Jun. 30, 2011James A. Loney went 1 for 4 in the Los Angeles Dodgers's 1-0 loss at the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. Loney graduated from Fort Bend Elkins High School.
Loney is a 2002 graduate of Elkins High School where he was a first-team high-school all-American utility player during his senior season in 2002. The Los Angeles Dodgers made him their first-round pick (19th overall) of the 2002 Major League Baseball draft. Loney played in 431 minor league games during his first four professional seasons before making his Major League debut with LA on April 4, 2006. Loney appeared in 96 games for the Dodgers with a .331 batting average, 15 home runs and 67 RBIs to finish sixth in National League rookie of the year voting. Loney hit at least 10 runs and drive in at least 88 runs each of the next three seasons (2008 to 2010) in LA. Loney was born May 7, 1984 in Houston. Read more...
