Albers is a 2001 graduate of the Clements School. He was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 23rd round (686th overall) of the 2001 Major League Baseball draft. Albers began his professional career in 2002 and spent six seasons (2002 to 2007) in the Astros' system. During 2006 he went a combined 12-3 with a 2.49 ERA in 23 starts with Corpus Christi of the Texas League (double-A) and triple-A Round Rock of the Pacific Coast League. Albers was 10-2 with a 2.17 ERA at Corpus Christi to be named Texas League pitcher of the year. He made his Major League debut with Houston on July 25 2006 and went 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA in 15 innings for the Astros that season. Albers split 2007 between Houston and Round Rock before being traded after the season to Baltimore as part of the six-player trade that sent Miguel Tejada to Houston. He spent three seasons (2008 to 2010) with Baltimore going 11-12 with a 4.60 ERA in 146 games for the Orioles before signing as a free agent with Boston prior to the 2011 season. Albers was born Jan. 20 1983 in Sugar Land.
