A former Needville school board member has been chosen to fill a vacant spot on the board.
On Wednesday, the school board selected Kim Teykl to replace Position 1 trustee Mike Raska, who resigned so his son could accept a teaching position at the district’s junior high school.
Superintendent Curtis Rhodes said a trustee cannot be in office when a relative is hired for a professional position.
Some board members are spouses of teachers, but Rhodes said the teachers were hired before their spouses ran for office. Such scenarios, he said, are acceptable under district policy.
Raska was re-elected for a fourth three-year term in May. Teykl will serve until the May election, at which time candidates may run for the two years remaining on Raska’s unexpired term.
Teykl previously served a couple of terms on the board before opting not to run for re-election, but said Wednesday he was happy to be back.
