The Missouri City Police Department did something on Tuesday that only happens a few times each year: It arrested an unregistered solicitor.
The 26-year-old man from Los Angeles was going to door to door selling magazine subscriptions. A woman in the 6500 block of Harbor Mist called police to report the man after he was rude to her.
Police Capt. John Bailey said the city requires all solicitors to get a permit from the city, which does not cost anything.
Violations are a Class C misdemeanor, which Bailey said "in 99.9 percent of cases" ends with the officer writing a ticket.
But because in this case the man was from out of state and did not have a permit, the officer who arrived on the scene took him into custody so that he would be required to post a bond.
"That increases the odds of them coming back (on their court date)," Bailey said.
