See who's running in the smaller cities

Here's a list of candidates who filed for the May 8 elections in some of the smaller cities scattered across the Fort Bend County area.

    Needville

Three at-large council seats are up for grabs, with incumbents in those positions drawing one opponent.

The incumbents are: accountant Andrew Bohac, 57; retired rancher Kermit Blezinger, 72; and retired city secretary Kathleen Gajevsky, 69. Hoping to unseat one of them is security equipment technician Brad Clarida, 38. The top three vote-getters will be the winners.

    Wallis

Three at-large positions are also on the line in Wallis, where the incumbents hoping to be re-elected are: self-employed candidate James King, 56; transportation broker Don Daft, 61; and service technician Clark Main Jr., 36.

Their challengers are sports official Al Venezula, 60, and teacher Darrell Engelbrecht, 37.

    Orchard

Unless write-in candidates sign up by 5 p.m. Monday, no election will be necessary in Orchard, where only the incumbents have filed for office.

Mayor Rod Pavlock, 55, is a Realtor and the at-large commissioners are production supervisor David Kolafa, 51, and educator Rachelle Demny, 39.

    Beasley

In Beasley, one at-large position on council remains unfilled after no one filed to replace Frank Albright Jr., who died in February.

The only candidates to file for the other two at-large positions on the ballot were incumbents Jerri Lindemann, 56, a secretary, and Alfred Becan, 48, who is in the energy production industry.

    Kendleton

Mayor Darryl Humphrey, 47, a lineman, drew no challengers in his bid for re-election, nor did Position 2 Councilman Melvin Petitt, 69, who is retired.

Position 4 Councilman Van H. Taylor resigned in February dues to illness. Hoping to earn his spot on council are master electrician Richard Edward Battle, 70, and magazine owner Carolyn Kindred Jenkins, 51.

    Thompsons

Mayor Freddie Newsome Jr., 62, a U.S. postal contractor, drew no opposition in his bid for re-election, but a challenger is hoping to take a council seat from one of the two incumbents up for re-election.

Aldermen Sherrie K. Knoepfel, 49, a property management specialist, and loan operations specialist Deborah K. Brown, 53, are being challenged by Edward E. Taylor, 63, retired military.

    East Bernard

Elections are not likely to be necessary in East Bernard, where bank president Buck Boettcher, 71, has served as mayor since the town incorporated in 2003. Neither he nor the two at-large aldermen positions have opponents.

Incumbent Tommy Vacek, 53, owns Vacek Hardware. Incumbent Toby Hlavinka did not file for re-election, and the only candidate to file for that seat on council was Terry Hlavinka, 46, general manager of Hlavinka Equipment.

    electricians

Finding a good electrician can be uncertain unless you know how to go about it. First, perform a detailed assessment of the electrical work you want done on your home. This way you can be prepared to ask questions, answer questions and you also have a set standard of expectation from the electrician. In the past I have used Sugarland Electricians I was very satisfied with their work. The Customer Service was exceptional. Check out their website. Http://www.sugarlandelectricians.com
