It looks like Sugar Land is going to cancel its elections this year. I wish we had the interest that Missouri City residents had in their city government.

I wonder what impact a quiet Sugar Land race will have on the school board election?

I wonder why Owen thought he could place the ballot initiative for a homeowners exemption and then remove it only a month later right before the election and not be challenged? That was pretty arrogant of him to then issue a challenge if the public didn't like it.

I guess if he wanted an opponent, he did the right thing playing dictator.

This Mayoral election is going to key on mismanagement of QVGC. How does a Golf Course lose over $600,000 in the short period that the City has owned it? The Mayor has his fingerprints all over this issue. That's a lot of public money that is doing nothing more than helping out the Mayor's buddies and giving them a discounted golf round and some beverages courtesy of the City's taxpayers. Too bad we won't find out the full purchase price of QVGC until after the May election, then the voters would really be incensed. As it is now, he's just been grossly negligent.

At least you all have an election and some choices to make!

I want to wish all the candidates the best of luck during the coming elections! I hate to read about personal attacks on those willing enough to serve.

...and I doubt negative comments re these three men posted by pseudonyms will affect the decision of voters. Besides, if the negative comments were all true, why use a pseudonym? When you have the truth on your side, there is never any need to hide.

...and in re to negative comments re these three men posted by any real names of real people...I would also think if they are not backed up by credible supporting evidence, that they will also be dismissed by voters.

I forgot to mention that campaign toadies will frequent these sites to support the candidates backed by the special interest who directly benefit from our tax dollars on their projects. Do not vote for:

"..Nguyen, Owen, and Wyatt" or you will see more tax increases for their developer buddies and less in your wallet....McClure is a campaign worker for them.

Thanks patriot, that is great advice! I like to suggest people get the campaign finance reports going back a few years on the incumbents and if they are endorsing a candidate like Danny, then you pretty much have the big picture.

I'm specifically a campaign volunteer (not campaign 'worker') for Nguyen, Owen, and Wyatt...and it is my pleasure to be one.

P.S. Re the homestead exemption, it was a 7-0 decision to take it off (not Owen going it alone). They decided that the $26 a year that most people would save in taxes, would be better spent on adding 5 additional Police Officers on the street to keep the city safe. They also said they would reconsider it again next year when property values are back up as well as sales tax revenue. They need to add about 15 new officers and this was a start towards that goal.

...and I'm sure if you contacted the Mayor and/or any council member(s), they could verify the above as true also.

That's funny because it was Owen who came up with the police and fire excuse. Who would dare vote against that tactic. BTW, he has already started to back off that claim. He uses police and fire as the excuse for everything but the last time he sunk any budget dollars into it was years ago. They have half the patrol officers of SL and a fire ISO rating of 3-4 (not good). The last funds police got was from a federal grant......ask him about the bottom land they bought one Houston developer last year. It's about the same amount as the budgeting for the exemption.

I read you don't live in MC so why would you care if you support the man that borrowed this from prior elections and placed it on the ballot only to remove it a few weeks ago. Maybe if it was your taxes going to all his special friends projects you wouldn't be so eager to attack.

Owen, Wyatt and Nguyen can all retire. We are tired of all the political games. Fresh new ideas are needed to take the city in a better direction. I really like Anthony Mouralis and Kevin Tunstall. I dont know Cynthia Lenton Gary personally, but from seeing her on council, she has proven to be her own woman, with no ties to special interest. I will contact her campaign office and pledge my support this weekend.

It is my hope that we can do something to straighten out this budget mess the city is in.

Why didnt Owen trust the tax paying residents enough to decide if or not they wanted the Homestead Exemption to remain on the ballot for them to decide for themselves. We the residents are very capable of deciding things for ourselves, we are not stupid Owen.

I don't live within the city limits and cannot vote in this election, but I live very close. Also, my family and I spend much time in the city and we know and care about a lot of people that do live there. We also support Missouri City businesses as much as possible.

Cynthia Lenton Gary and the residents of Missouri City can work toward a better Missouri City.

Change, although uncomfortable, is needed to advance new initiatives and broaden ideas to improve our community and offer greater educational opportunities for our children.
