It is great to see they held Healey under the magic number (50%), go Nina in the run-off! Carreon won his nomination and it was great to see McMeans pull his parties nom off too. It was also good to see Patterson win! Sorry to see Olivo was unable to pull off another come from behind win like ‘08 but that’s the breaks.
Good luck to all and congrats to those who ran and also those who won.
Olivo Ate Dust
It was great to see Dora the Exploiter eat dust this election. No doubt she will be bitter and mean until November and then we'll be rid of her. It's great the developers have lost another friend in Austin with Dora gone.
Read Before Voting
SugarBabe it seems you have something personal against Dora Olivo, that's a shame, but take your blinders off and look at what you and others like you have elected to replace her. Check his campaign finance reports (if he continues to file them this time). You will see who really backs Reynolds. Also, Reynolds is so far into campaign debt, and has so lost so many legal actions that he is very vulnerable because of financial need. I could just hear the special interest licking their lips. The Republicans too. No one with good sense or good intentions could vote for Reynolds after reading ANY of the documents that have been posted in the Fort Bend blogosphere these past weeks.
It has become very obvious that people who rely on surface issues elected this man. People who beleive what is sensational, giving Reynolds a "win by hook or crook" victory.
A lobbyist at the head of the Democratic Pary, and Reynolds in the House Rep.27 seat. Fort Bend Democrats have sunk to a new low, and the people will suffer. I guess the party can now be called the RepubliDem or Demopublican party.
Ooh, nasty post election chatter, nothing like it. A lobbyist in
Ooh, nasty post election chatter, nothing like it. A lobbyist in charge of the local dem party and sending a well connected new state rep with no seniority and quite a bit of ethical baggage to Austin? So what's new in Texas politricks? Developers backing Dora. That's quite a misdirection post too, Reynolds has them all over his support list so whom do you think you are kidding sugar.
You should have named yourself "sourbabe". Now congratulate both candidates for running and putting their butts on the line while you poke fun from the dark.
Post note- It's great to see John Healey forced into a run-off and Forlano & Smelley get hammered!
Huh?
rounders, I'm shocked with your post. You've been such a resilent, vocal supporter of Smelley in the past and throughout the campaign I thought you were his son/daughter......I can't believe that he lost with his platform of fiscal conservatism, what with all his outstanding work with the BOT.
And you're right - there ain't a one of them that gets elected without developer money. The difference is not all of them sell out to developers before taking/early on in office. Some are extremely strong-willed and take years of payoffs, er, political contributions, before becoming a full-time puppet!
I see, so Danny Nguyen isn't a commercial developer and Allen
I see, so Danny Nguyen isn't a commercial developer and Allen Owen doesn't have quite an extensive list of Houston area developers to his credit and neither is a supporter? Tell me another one. These records are easy to get. Just make sure when you point the finger you have all the facts. Dora has never taken individual contributions from those people, yours have....keep trying or keep gloating "sourbabe". These elections are every 2. So all you have to do is find an honest candidate to run against these boys.

Sorry again, it isn't just about missed deadlines but you can keep lying to yourself, just not the public:

Try reading the facts and then go read the court cases. Many have and there is no covering for the malfeasance.
Joking again?
I hope you are kidding Mike. If not please produce a single post where I was supporting Smelley? He was borrowing other peoples issues and running as a chameleon, not a taxpayers friend, just a wannabee taker. My official position was I don't like either one or their spec. int. backers but I certainly wasn't buying the cloak Smelley put on in his attacks and attempts to look like the taxpayers best friend. And no I don't like Hebert and the edc boys. Smelley was just another wannabee player and we don't need more of them. I believe you are talking about kneebuster.
Once again if you are not kidding, then please provide a direct quote that can be verified. Otherwise you are whistling dixie.

rounders
We "negative ninnies" need to stick together in our little "victories".......in this case, Smelley's loss.
GO NINA!
GO NINA!
Don't celebrate too much, you still have an edc boy at the helm
Don't celebrate too much, you still have an edc boy at the helm in that pct. and they love to borrow, tax and spend on you guys. Also I wouldn't worry about Smelley. Bad pennies and chameleons have a way of re-emerging unscathed. Who knows, maybe he will run for the school board again and convince people the budget and debt load is really ok.
Why run for the BOT again?
He'll become yet another paid consultant of FBISD. He'll be an independent "financial crisis management" contractor. This role will allow him to clean up the mess of "others" as an extreme fiscal conservative.
Hey, better benefits, no public criticisms/haggling/hiding/scrutiny of perks as a board member. As an expert consultant, he'll just cash the checks and sign new contracts - until the financial crisis is cleared up.
Good one!
Good one!
I see Smelley's not popular here...
... And he can leave Fort Bend and we'd all probably be better off... In the meantime, he'll continue living on the "good side" of Missouri City and pretending like people asking questions or for help don't exist, I'm sure.
ANYWAY... can we get down to real business now? That is: 1. Putting the pressure on FBCAD for fairness in assessments (they have the idea most of Fort Bend, especially new areas, have values going through the roof in a recession!) 2. Doing something about this terrible trend that developers think they MUST have huge apartment complexes built on the edge of every subdivision or freeway (to kill our tax base and hurt our schools and property values) 3. Enact some sort of county ordinance or something to protect us taxpayers from the worst developers (those who sub-divide up properties, build endless numbers of apartment complexes and ugly strip malls, or who keep trying to build state-funded would-be slums i.e. Goldshire Developers)...
lol

Very good points fort bender but we also need to keep our eyes on the politicians who take their money and then sit on their hands when the greatest contributors decide to push these projects on us knowing full well that their over-development hurts the tax base, increases traffic and as they age attract crime. I believe the Greater Fort Bend Economic Development Council (GFBCEDC), whose members steer a great deal of money into local politicos races and have many of these same connected development companies operating as members, suggested keeping the county apt. development rate at less than 10%, but currently we are closer to 20% of housing. Not a good sign. Perhaps the GFBCEDC and their president Jeff Wiley should impose some sort of sanctions method on their membership when they push projects that negatively impact our county? Perhaps our county commissioners and many of our larger city councils and mayors should stop dealing with their membership and taking their contributions if they continue to act in this fashion.....perhaps, perhaps, perhaps.....but nah...ain't gonna happen.
It's all in the master plan.....lol
