A Fort Bend school district middle school student is in police custody charged with assault for pulling a toy gun on a bus driver today.
The 14-year-old girl is being held in the Fort Bend County Juvenile Detention Center.
At 7:50 a.m., the student walked up to the driver side window of a school bus parked in a Kroger parking lot near Independence Boulevard and Quail Place Drive in Missouri City and pointed what appeared to be a real gun at the driver.
The bus, which was about to leave for the morning route, didn’t have students on it, said district spokeswoman Mary Ann Simpson.
The student then walked around to the door of the bus with a male student and they, along with another female student, attempted to board the bus. The bus driver refused to let them on and informed district police, Simpson said.
Afterward, a mother of one of the students drove up and picked up the students to take them to school. The bus driver provided the mother’s license plate number to police.
The parent later told authorities she had no idea what had happened and that she had taken the students to school because they were not allowed on the bus.
District police found the vehicle with the students and a search yielded a toy gun that belonged to the female student identified by the school bus driver, Simpson said.
The incident represents the first challenge to David Rider, the new police chief, who told the Chronicle when he was sworn in in January that safer schools and crime prevention education are among his focuses.

to all you people thinking the previous commenters are stupid for missing the "toy gun" part of the story, the story first put up had very little info and stated that a gun was pulled on the bus driver. there was no mention of it being a toy. the article has since been updated with more information. this happens many times on the chronicle and other news sites. maybe think a little before replying.

The mom who picked them up had to know something wasn't right. If I had to come pick up my kids because the driver didn't let them on the bus, the first thing I'd do when I got there was ask the drive what the problem was.
