These musicians know how to carry a tune

Seven students from the Lamar Independent School District earned Texas Music Educators Association All-State status at the All-Area auditions.

The students competed against schools along the Gulf Coast. They will now participate in the All-State Band and Choir as part of the TMEA Clinic/Convention, which is set for Feb. 10-13, in San Antonio, according to an LCISD news release.

Terry High’s Joseph Flores is a member of the TMEA All-State Band.

TMEA All-State Choir members from Lamar CISD are Foster High School’s Alayna Thomas, Terry High School’s Carolyn Castillo, and Porscha Shaw, Quiterius Jackson, Chika Iguh and Richie Heussner, all from Lamar Consolidated High.

Jackson is now a three-time TMEA All-State selection and Iguh earns his second TMEA All-State designation.
