Bulldozers abound along several streets in Fort Bend County as long-awaited construction gets under way.
As part of the county's construction project to widen Katy-Flewellen in the Katy area, stop signs have been added to the intersection of Katy-Flewellen and Greenbusch making it a three-way stop. This is one of the many projects approved in the Fort Bend County Mobility Bond.
According to the office of Fort Bend County Precinct 3 Commissioner Andy Meyers, those stop signs will be in place for a while until crews can install a traffic signal at the location.
That project should be complete in the next 90 days, Meyers' office reports.
Construction in that area, near Katy Mills Mall and Pin Oak Road south of the Katy Freeway, is turning Katy-Flewellen from Greenbusch to Katy Gaston into a four-lane road as opposed to the two-laner it is now. Construction is expected to last 12-18 months.
In addition, Fort Bend County is widening Greenbusch (which turns into Westheimer Parkway heading south) to four-lanes from
Katy Flewellen to Falcon Ranch Boulevard sometime this summer. That project also will take 12-18 months.
Construction has also started on Katy Gaston from FM 1093 to Cinco Ranch Boulevard with a traffic signal at Fry and Katy Gaston. It will take about a year to complete.
