Academy to reopen if Longhorns win

If you're one of the hundreds of thousands of fans and alumni ('01 in the house here!) planning to watch Texas compete against Alabama in the BCS National Championship game, you could be one of the first to show up to work the next day with a championship shirt. Only if UT wins.

Several Academy stores, including the one in Sugar Land at 16610 U.S. 59, are planning to reopen immediately following the game if Texas wins to begin selling championship gear.

The undefeated teams plan to duke it out tonight at 7 p.m. Central time in Pasadena, Calif. for the National Championship title. And Academy, among other stores, will be ready to sell shirts showcasing a UT victory that have already been printed.

And if UT doesn't bring home the trophy? The shirts will be shredded to be seen by no one. Such a gloomy Friday it shall be.

Check out the Chronicle's sports page for more on the game. And last, but not least, Hook 'Em Horns!
