One of my favorite types of food is barbecue. Oh yeah.
Chicken, brisket, sausage, pulled pork - I love it all. Just as long as the sauce is good and the meat isn't dry (nothing worse than dry brisket). And don't be skimpy on the portions.
There aren't a whole lot of barbecue restaurants in Fort Bend County, but there are a number of them.
Although I haven't eaten there in quite some time, I've always liked Schulze's Bar-B-Que on Texas 36 in Rosenberg. In fact, they catered my wedding back in 1993. Good stuff.
My family and I live in Sugar Land, so we tend to go to Brookstreet Bar-B-Que at 1416 Highway 6 every so often. Not a big place, but we've never encountered any long lines. Here's their Web site.
When the mood strikes, we also drop in at Otto's in Stafford. It's in the Fountains shopping center.
But I know I'm missing some good places, and that's where I'm hoping readers can help out. What's your favorite barbecue joint in the county, and more importantly, why?
And, if for some awful reason you don't like barbecue, well, then you can let us know that, too.

Barbeque in Fort Bend
Our favorite food is barbeque and there is quite a bit of good barbeque in Fort Bend, depending on the atmosphere you want.
Schulze's barbeque is wonderful. The loaded baked potato is great and our kids love the turkey. My wife also loves to get the homemade jalepeno bread.
The Swinging Door (www.swingingdoor.com) is another great place with a more upbeat atmosphere. There is normally music playing or a live band. Everything was fantastic.
Vasos Barbeque (www.vasos-bbq.com) on Hwy-90A at Dairy Ashford is another good place. The sliced beef is very tender and the barbeque sauce is a bit tangy. However, my favorite item there is their fries. The only other place I have had those fries is at Demeris' Barbeque (another great barbeque but not in Fort Bend).
I have also heard that South Texas Barbeque on Hwy 36 (closer to 59 than Schulze's) is also very good though I have not tried it myself.
Although I love Fort Bend and the many great barbeque places, the best barbeque I have ever had was at Smitty's Barbeque in Lockhart, Texas (about 14 miles north of Luling, TX)
Thanks,
Tom
The Best Barbecue in Sugar Land
Texas Brisket on highway 90 is the best. Biggest Stuffed baked potatoes and meat that is not camouflaged with liquid smoke, but the real smoke.
Service is great and fast, always friendly people to wait on you.
Texas != BBQ
Interestingly, Texans seem to think they have good BBQ, but really, you'll find much better in Louisiana and Florida. I have yet to taste BBQ here that even comes close to the taste and texture of Park Ave in Palm Beach FL, or the road-side highway stands along I10 east of the state.
Best BBQ in Fort Bend (and elsewhere)
I can't believe you didn't mention that Fort Bend institution, Swinging Door on FM 359! Best darn ribs around. Try some of that dirty rice with them to make it complete.
Fort Bend BBQ
yo CST, your tastebuds must be gone if you think Park avenue, PA BBQ in geritolville Palm Beach county fl is better than a legitimate restuarant from Texas...come one dude...Im in palm beach now, and while PA has some decent ribs, and some good smoked chicken, the best thing about them is there all you can eat specials and hot bbq sauce...thats it...the pulled pork there is garbage,(and pulled pork in general is as well)..I would equate pa bbq inline with Pappas bbq or goode company in Houston
as for Fort Bend BBQ, there isnt one must have spot like the Salt Lick in Austin (best bbq in Texas) or the County Seat, but as long as the meat is smoked, the sauce no longer has a tomato-ey taste and its good, then its all good
Smokin Mike's
Don't forget Smokin Mike's on Hwy 6 and West Airport. Great BBQ and sides too. My kids love it.
Galvans is the best
I go all the way from Houston to 90 and Pitts road to Galvan's BBQ. I live on Westheimer and pass up some of those places just to get my BBQ. The ribs are the bomb and the sausage is homemade. I love brisket but I don't eat everybody's because they're just dry but not Galvan's I have dubbed Clem (the owner) the King of briskets go over there and try it. Oh and the black eye peas and greens are awesome. There boudin is the best. This BBQ is so good it's shipped all over the world. If you want a good game of chess they have that too.
Galvan's Man
best barbeque
The only b-q in Fort Bend is The Swinging Door

Best BBQ in Ft. Bend
I have eaten at most all BBQ places in Ft Bend from Needville to the NE corner of Ft Bend, but the SWINGING DOOR at FM 359 and McCrary Road in Richmond is the absolute best - from the food to the young ladies who take your order and wait on you.
Best Barbeque in Fort Bend
My husband and I think the best barbeque in Fort Bend is The Swinging Door in Richmond. My husband has been a fan for over 30 years and he introduced me to "Texas Barbeque" when I moved to Texas 18 years ago. My husband loves the brisket and sausage, I love the chicken and we both love the turkey breast, it is excellent! I highly recommend the Swinging Door to everyone I know.
BEST BBQ hands down..............
Hands down Galvans Sausage House off HWY 90a and Pitts Road. Affordable, Fresh Cuts and Friendly Service. True Texan Taste.
Best BBQ
I like Texas Brisket on 90 between Walmart and the sugar mill across from Nalco. Brisket has a nice smoke ring, huge baked potatoes, fabulous hamburgers and fries. Smoked chicken is the best but sometimes they run out so you have to get it early. They have a good breakfast as well. Nothing fancy, just good food.
Best BBQ..Ft. Bend.
I'm a value person and though Swinging Door is good it's over priced for what you get.
Schultz is #1 for 3 meat/3 sides $10
Texas Brisket good all around but small and not to clean..(big Tators).
Galvans i will have to try again..sausage dry.
Vasos is a hit and miss and not much food for $$.
Otto's is ok, if your in the area, but don't drive there for the food.
Hinze's on Mason/ 2 miles off I-10 is good if your in the area.
Best BBQ..Ft. Bend
Tom, you said best BBQ was in Lockart and your correct (3 good places), but for the extra 14 miles you should have stayed in Luling at City Market...Yummmy.
Ps.. get it to go and then drive to Palmatto St. Park and have a picnic.
best bar b q
Mueller's in taylor texas is the best lunch bar b q in the world...maybe universe..one of the few places with great beef ribs...2nd on beef ribs is Iron Works in Austin on 1st street..
Best Bar-B-Q in Fort Bend County and Sugar Land
Vasos Bar-B-Q is the only place I can find homemade cooking. All their food is homemade...the bar-b-q sauce(the best), fries, onion rings, pot. salad...everything. Their beef is super tender, great Greek salads and huge baked pot!
What's good about Vasos's, everytime I go in, their food is consistent...I never worry about it being good one time and not the next. The quantity is good and the prices are fair! My company use them for caterings and deliveries all the time....highly recommend Vasos.
