DePelchin Children’s Center wants to inspire Richmond-area residents to volunteer with a successful art program in partnership with the Houston-based ArtBridge organization.
Founded in 1999 by two board-certified licensed art therapists, ArtBridge provides art programs for at-risk children as well as homeless children in the Houston area within a supportive environment that encourages creativity.
"This weekly art-making session offers our foster children the opportunity to discover their own creative voices," said Za’ndra Jackson, manager of volunteer and community outreach at DePelchin. "We don’t ask for artistic talent from our volunteers, just a willingness to help and an appreciation for artistic expression."
ArtBridge is held every Tuesday from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at DePelchin’s Richmond campus at 710 7th St.
Because the children need consistent role models, a sixth-month commitment to attend one session per week is asked of each ArtBridge volunteer. All training, materials and support are provided by ArtBridge.
